With the plethora of spa management software systems available in the market today, it is difficult to find the right software for your spa – the one that will allow you to effectively manage your bookings, track therapist and spa productivity, control your inventory, take note of client preferences, help you market your spa, and more – and fit within your budget at the same time.

The tenth factor

Another key factor to consider is what we call “digital-ability”.

Firstly, does the spa management software allow your clients to interact digitally with your business? In other words, can clients book their treatments, manage their bookings or purchase gift certificates online? Giving your clients the opportunity to book appointments without having to speak with a receptionist, however and whenever they want to, will drive more business to your spa without you having to do “anything”, except tapping into available digital platforms. One spa actually reported a 90% increase in total revenue after a year of offering an online booking option to their clients.

Secondly, is the software mobile-friendly? Can your consumers book their treatments across different devices? As technology advances and the way consumers buy changes, it has become increasingly important to make it easy for your clients to interact with your spa. As Tanisha Foster advocates, “simply put, mobile technology is a must-have in the modern world of business and will continue to shape consumer behaviour and expectations of the future…Everything is moving mobile; your [spa] should be too.”

  1. I’d like to add an 11th bullet point to consider:
    the interface with the (existing) PMS. Most of the software problems we have to solve in current projects are deriving from the communication-tool between Spa software and Property Management System. Mis-entered data causes worries and unnecessary workload for both accounting and spa management.

      You have brough up a great point Wilfried. Especially for hotel spas, the interface between the existing PMS and the spa software is a very important point to consider. Mispostings, lack of understanding of how the PMS and software work behind the scenes, as well as other interface “blips” cause unnecessary workload for both finance and spa teams. Training of all teams – spa, finance, IT – along with a responsive software partner that provides 24/7 technical support, are key to make the initial transition phase smoother.
