After sharing different insights about the root causes and effects of the current healthcare crisis as well as tips for innovation and design thinking, it is time to take a look at the business value and benefits provided by innovative solutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As in previous posts in this series, we are using the paper <em>People-focused Innovation in Healthcare<\/em> written by Lekshmy Parameswaran and Jeroen Raijmakers as a point of reference.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--:--><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Este es el \u00faltimo post de nuestra serie sobre innovaci\u00f3n sanitaria. Despu\u00e9s de compartir diferentes puntos de vista sobre las causas y efectos de la actual crisis de salud, as\u00ed como consejos para la innovaci\u00f3n y el design thinking, es el momento de mirar el valor comercial y los beneficios que ofrecen las soluciones innovadoras.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Al igual que en los art\u00edculos precedentes de esta serie, utilizaremos como punto de referencia el documento <em>People-focused Innovation in Healthcare<\/em> escrito por Lekshmy Parameswaran y Raijmakers Jeroen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--:--><!--more--><!--:en--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Design Articulation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Before we take a look at the business value and benefits that can be generated by an innovative approach in healthcare, we would like to provide you with the last example of this series, which highlights a successful way of communicating value through design articulation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Back in 2004, Philips Design, one of the world&#8217;s largest design consultancies, was asked to improve the pediatric CT scanning experience. There were two main challenges involved: The intimidating design the room presented to kids and the safety risks produced by sedation procedures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">By applying a &#8220;concept of human-focused healthcare and a research-driven innovation approach,&#8221; which also integrated a multi-disciplinary model, Philips Design was able to come up with a toy CT scanner called The Kitten Scanner. &#8220;By choosing a toy and placing it into the scanner, children are shown an animated story to help them understand the procedure in an entertaining way. The toy selected by the child is used to trigger personalisation of the exam room with animated projections and lighting effects&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thanks to this innovative solution, sedation rates were cut down drastically and patient safety experienced a significant improvement. The overall efficiency of the service was also improved in a solid way. This case is just one of the many successful solutions that Philips Design has been able to implement using its unique approach to healthcare innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Business Value<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The business value of a research-driven innovation approach in healthcare, such as that implemented by Philips Design, can be felt at different levels. It provides the market with strong solutions that can endure future forces of change. These solutions, which are reinforced by &#8220;involving patients, families and clinical staff in the innovation design process,&#8221; are also effective channels to identify needs, issues and values.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Such an approach also empowers multi-disciplinary innovation teams &#8220;promoting a bold and open attitude to innovation that gives room for each discipline to excel and enjoy the freedom to innovate&#8221;. Likewise, the implementation of design thinking also reveals opportunities for innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Business Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Any organisation that builds solutions based on research-drive innovation can enjoy significant benefits from this kind of approach. On the one hand, this can create a common vision that generates strategic alignment within the organisation. On the other hand, this approach provides &#8220;relevance for a range of business processes and innovation timeframes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This model also improves the collective knowledge and skills of the multi-disciplinary force that implements it. At the same time, it provides confidence in terms of the choices to make and engages customers in the construction of their own future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Lessons for The Spa Industry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As we have explored in this post, the benefits of innovation and design thinking are quite significant. We strongly feel that the spa and wellness industries need to embrace innovation and design thinking in order to be successful in their attempt to join the health field.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The healthcare industry and our world are changing in a dramatic way. En ese entonces, hab\u00edan dos retos importantes: El dise\u00f1o intimidante de la habitaci\u00f3n que se le ofrec\u00eda a los ni\u00f1os y los riesgos de vida que involucraban los procedimientos de sedaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mediante la aplicaci\u00f3n de un &#8220;concepto de desarrollo humano centrado en la salud y un enfoque de investigaci\u00f3n orientado hacia la innovaci\u00f3n&#8221;, que tambi\u00e9n integraba un modelo multidisciplinario, Philips Design fue capaz de elaborar un TAC de juguete llamado The Kitten Scanner. &#8220;Con la posibilidad de elegir un juguete y colocarlo en el esc\u00e1ner, a los ni\u00f1os se les muestra una historia animada que les ayuda a entender el procedimiento de una manera entretenida. Este caso es s\u00f3lo una de las muchas soluciones exitosas que Philips Design ha sido capaz de poner en pr\u00e1ctica con su enfoque \u00fanico hacia la innovaci\u00f3n sanitaria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Valor comercial<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">El valor comercial de un enfoque de investigaci\u00f3n orientado hacia la innovaci\u00f3n en materia de asistencia sanitaria, como el implementado por Philips Design, se puede sentir en diferentes niveles.
