Continuing on with our series of entries on the \u201cexperience\u201d of our client, and how design plays an important and direct role in it, we would like to conclude this series with a fourth entry: the importance of integrated architecture that is enhanced by its surroundings.<\/p>\n

Although for many years, the construction of buildings has been done regardless of their surroundings, it has now become evident that, in order to understand true architecture and therefore humanising the environment by making it habitable for people, thinking about where to place a building and all things close or around it, is extremely important. In today\u2019s architecture, it is the architect\u2019s and project developer\u2019s responsibility to conserve and make use of the resources offered by nature, from landscapes to environmental conditions, as a starting point to give shape to their work.<\/p>\n

Para finalizar con el mes dedicado a \u201cla experiencia\u201d del cliente, y c\u00f3mo el dise\u00f1o influye de una manera directa en \u00e9ste, queremos terminar con una cuarta entrada, en la que hablar de la importancia de una arquitectura integrada, que se nutre de lo que tiene cerca, para crear su base.<\/p>\n

Aunque durante muchos a\u00f1os, el arte de construir edificios se ha realizado sin tener en cuenta aquello que les rodeaba, parece importante, entendiendo la arquitectura, en parte, como una forma de humanizar el entorno, y hacerlo habitable para el hombre, pensar en el lugar donde situar la construcci\u00f3n, y todo lo que la rodear\u00e1. Est\u00e1 en la mano de quien proyecta, el aprovechar los recursos ofrecidos por la naturaleza, desde paisajes a condiciones ambientales, como puntos iniciales con los que dar forma a sus trabajos.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Foundations of Good Architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n

Given the high component of aesthetics in the design world, we can understand that it is highly subjective, however, in the case of architecture, there are a few points that can give us clues as to whether a building is on the right track, for example, if it is designed in relation to the functionality or activity that will be carried out inside it, something that we have touched upon in the last three posts. The \u201ccontainer\u201d and its contents must be a whole.<\/p>\n

Moreover, we would like to emphasise the importance of projects being built to scale; the building should be modest enough to take up the size and shape required, and no more.\u00a0 Moreover, we should take into consideration what surrounds the building and the way the building or project communicates or \u201ctalks\u201d with its environment and topography.\u00a0 All these factors should be addressed in a respectful manner.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Iconic Projects.\u00a0 Hit or Miss?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In regards to the concept of scale and dialogue, we would like to take as a reference the historian William Curtis, author of the book “Modern architecture since 1900,” a critical name within the design field. Curtis has criticised the arrogance of certain projects, which have only been concerned about design with extravagant budgets, but have forgotten about the place in which they are located, and end up standing as simple icons. Often, these buildings destroy the landscape, they do not work for what they have been designed for, and they have fancy shapes, designed simply to attract attention. These cases stress the need to review the figure of a responsible architect, one that allows the building or project to serve its surroundings too.<\/p>\n

Curtis has also argued for the important role surroundings play in the art of shaping a city, where in certain cases, ignorant politicians under the false understanding that they could revive certain areas simply through iconic designs, built iconic projects, operating alone, without taking into consideration anything else. These bad decisions have proved expensive to the communities and surrounding environments.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Design Trail.\u00a0 Environment<\/strong><\/p>\n

Signed by one of the important names in contemporary architecture, Frenchman Jean Nouvel, Porto-Senso is an example of respectful and dialogue architecture with the surrounding environment. A project that not only blends into the environment, the opposite of the usual imposing building on the coast of Alicante, but also uses the environment to create its entire design, from the urban development plans right to the last detail in housing.<\/p>\n

The French architect claims that a project has a sustainable architecture, when the design, both general and specific, reflects the intention to not upset nature\u2019s balance. Thus, both the exteriors and interiors of each building, use the environment to develop their design entirely. Every decision of the design is based on, and takes into account, every inch it occupies.<\/p>\n

The Effectiveness of Simplicity<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the same way as in the above-mentioned project, where the environment has been vital in every design decision made, giving it its special personality, and fully differentiating it from the surrounding urban area, we can take this philosophy to other types of building constructions, including for example, those of spas and wellness facilities.<\/p>\n

Additionally, if a project is in an environment with a strong personality, by giving the surroundings the importance they deserve, not only will it make it easier in terms of construction, but it will give our project that extra flavour, which can be extended to our concept, treatment and service offering, client experience, including other aspects of our business.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n

Creating a good design project on a blank piece of paper is something reserved for those privileged few. A simple approach will allow us to see that the more determining factors you have in a design project, the easier its solution will be. Turning our backs on the things that surround us, not only is irresponsible but also unwise. If we take into consideration the clues that our environment offers us, we will already have a very high percentage of the design element resolved, but with an important extra – the authenticity of our concept, something that not all projects can show-off.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Las Bases de la Buena Arquitectura<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>Teniendo en cuenta el alto componente de est\u00e9tica en el mundo del dise\u00f1o, podemos entender el mismo como algo altamente subjetivo, aunque en el caso concreto de la arquitectura, hay unos cuantos puntos que pueden dar pistas de si un edificio va por el buen camino, como que est\u00e9 dise\u00f1ado en relaci\u00f3n a la funci\u00f3n que tendr\u00e1 que ser desarrollada en \u00e9l, un tema del que ya hemos venido hablando a lo largo de este mes.\u00a0 El contenedor, y su contenido, tienen que ser un todo.<\/p>\n

Por otro lado, ponemos el acento en la importancia de que las cosas est\u00e9n en escala, que los edificios sean suficientemente modestos, como para tomar el tama\u00f1o y la forma que requieren, y no otro, siempre pensando en lo que tienen alrededor, y en la forma con la que dialogar\u00e1n con su entorno y su topograf\u00eda, de manera respetuosa.<\/p>\n

Proyecto Icono. \u00bfAcierto o Error?<\/strong><\/p>\n

En relaci\u00f3n a ese concepto de escala y di\u00e1logo, nos gustar\u00eda nombrar al historiador William Curtis, autor de la obra \u201cLa arquitectura moderna desde 1900\u201d, un nombre cr\u00edtico con un fen\u00f3meno muy de moda, el dise\u00f1ador estrella.\u00a0 Curtis critica la arrogancia de ciertos personajes de primera l\u00ednea, que \u00fanicamente demuestran preocupaci\u00f3n por el dise\u00f1o, con unos proyectos de presupuestos desorbitados, que olvidan el lugar en el que se sit\u00faan, para erguirse como simples iconos. A menudo, esos edificios destrozan el paisaje, no funcionan para lo que fueron proyectados, y tienen formas completamente caprichosas, destinadas, simplemente, a llamar la atenci\u00f3n. Recalca la necesidad de retomar la figura de un arquitecto responsable con la sociedad a la que sirve.<\/p>\n

Menciona tambi\u00e9n una parte importante en el arte de dar forma a la ciudad, los pol\u00edticos, que con su ignorancia, creen que pueden reactivar ciertas zonas, simplemente a trav\u00e9s de dise\u00f1os icono, que funcionen solos, sin pensar en nada m\u00e1s. Estas malas decisiones suelen costar caras a la sociedad y al entorno que habitan.<\/p>\n

Pistas de Dise\u00f1o. El Entorno<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>Firmado por uno de los pesos pesados de la arquitectura actual, el franc\u00e9s Jean Nouvel, Porto-Senso es un ejemplo claro de arquitectura respetuosa y dialogante con el lugar que la soporta. Un proyecto que no s\u00f3lo se mimetiza con el entorno, para ser el opuesto a la construcci\u00f3n imponente habitual de la costa de Alicante, sino que adem\u00e1s, se sirve de \u00e9l para crear todo su dise\u00f1o, desde los planes de urbanizaci\u00f3n, hasta el \u00faltimo detalle de las viviendas.<\/p>\n

El arquitecto afirma que el proyecto tiene una arquitectura sostenible, donde el dise\u00f1o, tanto general como de detalle, responde al prop\u00f3sito de no alterar el equilibrio que la naturaleza brinda. De esta forma, tanto los exteriores, como los interiores de la vivienda, se sirven del entorno para desarrollar por entero el dise\u00f1o. Cada decisi\u00f3n del mismo, est\u00e1 basada, y tiene en cuenta, cada cent\u00edmetro que ocupa.<\/p>\n

La Efectividad de la Sencillez<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>De la misma forma que en el proyecto mencionado en el punto anterior, el entorno ha sido vital en cada decisi\u00f3n de dise\u00f1o tomada, consiguiendo as\u00ed una personalidad especial, y totalmente diferenciada de las urbanizaciones de alrededor, podemos llevar esa filosof\u00eda hacia otro tipo de construcciones, entre ellas, el negocio del spa y centros de wellness.<\/p>\n

No debemos olvidar,\u00a0 que si un proyecto se encuentra en un lugar con una marcada entidad, darle la importancia que merece, no s\u00f3lo facilitar\u00e1 el camino a seguir en cuestiones proyectuales, sino que otorgar\u00e1 a nuestro espacio, una especial sabor, que no s\u00f3lo tiene que estar relacionado con cuestiones de dise\u00f1o, sino que puede, incluso, ampliarse a la carta de tratamientos, o el trato con el cliente, para conseguir un concepto de negocio global.<\/p>\n

Conclusi\u00f3n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Crear un buen proyecto de dise\u00f1o sobre una hoja en blanco, es algo reservado a mentes privilegiadas. Una actitud sensata ante el trabajo, nos har\u00e1 ver que cuantos m\u00e1s condicionantes tiene un proyecto de dise\u00f1o, m\u00e1s sencilla ser\u00e1 su resoluci\u00f3n. Dar la espalda a aquello que nos rodea, no s\u00f3lo es un gesto irresponsable, sino poco inteligente. Si tenemos en cuenta las pistas que el entorno nos ofrece, tendremos un tanto porcentual muy alto de nuestro dise\u00f1o resuelto, con un a\u00f1adido especial, la autenticidad de nuestra propuesta, algo de lo que no todos los centros pueden presumir.<\/p>\n
