This week, we are sharing with you some of the actions we can implement in order to deal with these challenges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Just like our previous post, the following insights are based on the findings provided by the 2012 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalspaandwellnesssummit.org\/images\/stories\/pdf\/gsws.2012.research.spa.management.workforce.education.revised.june.2012.pdf?utm_source=Weekender091512&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=6233\">Spa Management Workforce &amp; Education<\/a> report, a document elaborated by SRI International in agreement with the Global Spa &amp; Wellness Summit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--:--><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">En el art\u00edculo precedente, introducimos los desaf\u00edos que nuestra industria enfrenta actualmente en t\u00e9rminos de <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spa-balance.com\/es\/2012\/10\/11\/la-gestion-de-spas-y-el-reto-de-encontrar-profesionales-capacitados\/\">gesti\u00f3n de spas<\/a>. Esta semana, compartimos con ustedes algunas de las acciones que podemos implementar para hacer frente a dichos desaf\u00edos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Al igual que nuestro art\u00edculo anterior, las siguientes reflexiones se basan en los resultados proporcionados por el reporte del 2012 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalspaandwellnesssummit.org\/images\/stories\/pdf\/gsws.2012.research.spa.management.workforce.education.revised.june.2012.pdf?utm_source=Weekender091512&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=6233\">Spa Management Workforce &#038; Education<\/a>, un documento elaborado por SRI International en concordancia con el Global Spa &#038; Wellness Summit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--:--><!--more--><!--:en--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Main Problem<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As we stated last week, there is a shortage of human capital that is currently affecting the spa industry. One of the main reasons behind that problem, which is particularly significant at the management level, is the lack of competitive training. As a result of this, most of today&#8217;s managers and directors do not have the right combination of hard (management, finance) and soft (teamwork, communications) skills that are necessary to properly run a spa or wellness centre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Building A Network<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In order to tackle the current spa management talent gap, the SRI report argues in favour of a more proactive and partnership-based approach within the spa industry. Such an approach must include the construction of a network where current and future managers, industry leaders and training providers can interact and seek out support from each other. According to the SRI report, these three stakeholders &#8220;must work together to make education, training, and skills upgrades a top priority.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Connecting Training with The Real World<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">One of the best aspects of the SRI report is that it provides very specific recommendations to deal with the current challenges. A significant portion of those recommendations is aimed at improving the crucial interaction that must exist between academic institutions and spa businesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For instance, the spa industry needs to get better at disseminating information regarding existing education and training providers, spa management internships and available spa literature. Similarly, an ideal proactive approach in our industry must take into consideration different kinds of investments. Spa businesses could, for example, sponsor scholarships for spa management students and finance faculty positions, spa labs and specific research.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Above all, the construction of a healthy network needs to establish good communication channels between the spa industry and academic institutions providing spa management training. Professionals in our industry should communicate with universities, colleges and schools sharing with them &#8220;industry trends, workforce needs, curriculum development, and other issues and areas of concern.&#8221; Our industry also needs to share with the academic world the best practices for training current and future spa management personnel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Corporate Human Resource Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Besides bringing together training providers and spa businesses, companies should also encourage human resource development (HRD) activities. The SRI report, argues spa and wellness companies can &#8220;support these efforts by offering forums, workshops, and speakers on the topic of human resource development at major industry events and conferences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Companies should also encourage staff to obtain existing industry certifications for spa management, promote ongoing research on HRD, and establish management trainee programmes that can provide recent graduates with the practical skills they need to assume full management responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Need for A New Model<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In order to deal with the current challenges and encourage the development of a professional spa management workforce, our industry needs to implement a new model that is proactive, cooperative and innovative. As the SRI report showed us, there are many interesting and creative options to forge a solid partnership between training providers, spa companies, industry professionals and current and future spa directors. If we are able to shape the future of spa management around these synergies, we will be able to bring to the whole process the right promotion of education, training and skills development that our industry needs today.<\/p>\n<p><!--:--><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>El problema fundamental<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">La semana pasada, nos referimos a la escasez de capital humano que actualmente afecta la industria del spa. Una de las razones principales detr\u00e1s de este problema, que es particularmente serio a nivel de gesti\u00f3n, es la falta de entrenamiento adecuado. Como resultado de lo anterior, la mayor\u00eda de los gerentes y directores de hoy en d\u00eda no tienen la combinaci\u00f3n apropiada de aptitudes de base (gesti\u00f3n, finanzas) y destrezas humanas (trabajo en equipo, comunicaci\u00f3n) que son necesarias para manejar correctamente un spa o centro de wellness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Construir una red<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Con el fin de enfrentar la brecha de talento que actualmente afecta la gesti\u00f3n de spas, el informe del SRI sugiere la adopci\u00f3n de un enfoque m\u00e1s proactivo y de cooperaci\u00f3n dentro de la industria del spa. Este enfoque debe incluir la construcci\u00f3n de una red en donde los actuales y futuros gestores, l\u00edderes de la industria y proveedores de capacitaci\u00f3n puedan interactuar y apoyarse mutuamente. Seg\u00fan el informe del SRI, estos tres actores &#8220;deben trabajar juntos y convertir en prioridad la educaci\u00f3n, la formaci\u00f3n, y el mejoramiento de aptitudes profesionales&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Crear una conexi\u00f3n entre la formaci\u00f3n y el mundo real<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Uno de los mejores aspectos del informe del SRI es que ofrece recomendaciones bastante espec\u00edficas para hacer frente a los retos actuales. Una parte importante de estas recomendaciones est\u00e1 dirigida a mejorar la crucial interacci\u00f3n que debe existir entre las instituciones acad\u00e9micas y las empresas de spa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A este respecto, la industria del spa debe mejorar la difusi\u00f3n de informaci\u00f3n en materia de educaci\u00f3n existente y proveedores de capacitaci\u00f3n, pasant\u00edas en gesti\u00f3n de spa y literatura disponible sobre el tema. Del mismo modo, un enfoque proactivo ideal en nuestra industria debe tener en cuenta diferentes tipos de inversiones. Las empresas de spa podr\u00edan, por ejemplo, patrocinar becas para estudiantes que est\u00e9n en programas de gesti\u00f3n de spas y financiar posiciones docentes, laboratorios de spa e investigaciones espec\u00edficas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Por encima de todo, la construcci\u00f3n de una red saludable necesita establecer buenos canales de comunicaci\u00f3n entre la industria del spa y las instituciones acad\u00e9micas que imparten formaci\u00f3n en materia de gesti\u00f3n de spas. Los profesionales de nuestra industria deben entrar en contacto con universidades, centros de formaci\u00f3n t\u00e9cnica y escuelas compartiendo con ellos &#8220;tendencias de la industria, necesidades de mano de obra, desarrollo curricular y otros temas y \u00e1reas de inter\u00e9s.&#8221; Nuestra industria tambi\u00e9n tiene que compartir con el mundo acad\u00e9mico las mejores pr\u00e1cticas para capacitar a los actuales y futuros profesionales encargados de la gesti\u00f3n de spas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Desarrollo corporativo de recursos humanos<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Adem\u00e1s de fomentar una comunicaci\u00f3n entre proveedores de formaci\u00f3n y empresas de spa, las \u00faltimas deben tambi\u00e9n promover actividades de desarrollo de recursos humanos (HRD, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). El informe del SRI, sostiene que las empresas de spa y wellness pueden &#8220;apoyar estos esfuerzos a trav\u00e9s de la organizaci\u00f3n de foros, talleres y voces especialistas en desarrollo de recursos humanos en los eventos m\u00e1s importantes del sector y otras conferencias.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Las empresas tambi\u00e9n deben persuadir su personal a conseguir certificaciones existentes en materia de gesti\u00f3n de spas, promover investigaci\u00f3n en HRD, y establecer programas de capacitaci\u00f3n en gesti\u00f3n que puedan brindar a los reci\u00e9n graduados las aptitudes pr\u00e1cticas que necesitan para asumir plenas responsabilidades de gesti\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>La necesidad de un nuevo modelo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Con el fin de hacer frente a los retos actuales y fomentar el desarrollo de una fuerza laboral capacitada en materia de gesti\u00f3n de spas, nuestra industria necesita implementar un nuevo modelo que sea proactivo, cooperativo e innovador. Tal y como lo establece el informe del SRI, existen muchas opciones interesantes y creativas para forjar una s\u00f3lida alianza entre los proveedores de formaci\u00f3n, las empresas de spa, los profesionales de la industria y los actuales y futuros gerentes y directores de spas.
