This week, we would like to show you that our trend prediction for 2013 is already unfolding. In particular, we would like to discuss how the current demand for personalised health solutions among customers is creating additional business opportunities for the spa and wellness industries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In order to better understand this, we will bring into this discussion some of the insights provided by an article recently published in The Guardian regarding the current <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/society\/2013\/jan\/06\/nhs-services-private-sector-doctors\">fragmentation<\/a> of the healthcare system in the UK and the expansion of the private sector into the National Health Service (NHS). Furthermore, we will cover some of the common ground that exists between the current demand for personalised health solutions and the crisis of national healthcare systems, our industry\u2019s desire to build synergies with the health industry, and the value of innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--:--><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hemos comenzado este a\u00f1o con una mirada a las tendencias que nuestro sector consolid\u00f3 en el <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spa-balance.com\/es\/2013\/01\/09\/el-post-mortem-del-2012-en-la-industria-del-spa\/\">2012<\/a> y aquellas que esperamos ver evolucionar en el <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spa-balance.com\/es\/2013\/01\/16\/las-5-principales-tendencias-del-2013-para-las-industrias-de-spa-y-wellness\/\">2013<\/a>. En particular, quisi\u00e9ramos discutir la forma en que la actual demanda de soluciones de salud personalizadas entre los consumidores est\u00e1 creando nuevas oportunidades de negocio para las industrias de spa y wellness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Para entender esto mejor, vamos a incluir en esta discusi\u00f3n alguna de las reflexiones expuestas en un art\u00edculo publicado recientemente en The Guardian relacionado con la actual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/society\/2013\/jan\/06\/nhs-services-private-sector-doctors\">fragmentaci\u00f3n<\/a> del sistema de salud en el Reino Unido y la expansi\u00f3n del sector privado dentro del Servicio Nacional de Salud (NHS por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s). Adem\u00e1s, vamos a cubrir el terreno en com\u00fan que existen entre la demanda actual de soluciones de salud personalizadas y la crisis de los sistemas nacionales de salud, el deseo que existe en nuestro campo de crear sinergias con la industria de la salud, y el valor de la innovaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><!--:--><!--more--><!--:en--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>An Open Field for Fragmentation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In previous posts, we have discussed the current crisis affecting healthcare systems around the world. We are now facing a breaking point where the financial burden of coping with chronic diseases is getting out of hand. This situation has been worsened by the lack of effective business models among healthcare providers and the high price paid by systems based on reactive services towards health.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">It is from this scenario that the fragmentation of services within the health field has gained room. In fact, this trend has been just embraced in the UK with the introduction of the \u2018Any Qualified Provider\u2019 (AQP) status, which allows more than 100 private firms to \u201cprovide basic NHS services \u00a0including physiotherapy, dermatology, hearing aids, MRI scanning and psychological therapy.\u201c<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This significant structural change has been praised and criticised by different actors. For obvious reasons, traditional healthcare providers have seen this move as a threat to the NHS. Dr. Clare Gerada, Chair of the Royal College of GPs, has stated that the newly introduced AQP status will atomise the NHS. According to Gerada, AQP \u201cis also atomizing the patient into individual parts, which is wrong and unhelpful, and forcing them to interact with multiple different services rather than just their local NHS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another issue that has created debate about the new regulations surrounding the NHS refers to the fact that an AQP-based model could place profitability as the ultimate goal to achieve by healthcare providers. In regards to this, The Royal College of Physicians is \u201cconcerned that the extension of any qualified provider could destabilise existing services and damage integrated care pathways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Giving More Choice to The Customer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In spite of all this criticism, the new changes have been praised by a large and diverse group of advocates who have constantly stressed the potential benefits that this fragmentation can provide to customers. Earl Howe, the Health Minister, has stated that the new reforms are aimed at &#8220;offering patients more choice, control and driving up the quality of their care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Similarly, the leading health and social provider Care UK has defended the new regulations arguing that AQP \u201cwill give scope for other organisations to provide services and should increase competition on the basis of patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We believe this rationale is the one that will allow us to be part of this imminent healthcare revolution. By building synergies with the health field and providing a set of services based on prevention and innovation, spas and wellness centres can seize a business opportunity that could easily define our industry for years to come.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Likewise, we believe 2013 offers the potential to be the year where the medical field will finally reach out to the spa and wellness sectors. Not only because it makes business sense but also because it gives the consumer what they are already looking for: More choice and personalized solutions to their health care problems. We will see how it goes.<\/p>\n<p><!--:--><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Un campo abierto a la fragmentaci\u00f3n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">En art\u00edculos anteriores, hemos hecho referencia a la crisis que actualmente afecta los sistemas sanitarios de todo el mundo. Hoy por hoy, nos encontramos en un punto cr\u00edtico en donde la carga financiera asociada con el manejo de enfermedades cr\u00f3nicas se est\u00e1 saliendo de nuestras manos. Dicha situaci\u00f3n se ha visto agravada por la falta de modelos de negocio eficaces entre proveedores de salud y el alto precio que deben pagar sistemas basados \u200b\u200ben servicios reactivos de salud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Es a partir de este escenario que la fragmentaci\u00f3n de servicios dentro del campo de la salud ha ido ganado fuerza. De hecho, dicha tendencia ha sido apenas adoptada en el Reino Unido con la introducci\u00f3n de la figura del \u2018Cualquier Proveedor Calificado\u2019 (AQP por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) que le permite a m\u00e1s de 100 empresas privadas &#8220;proporcionar servicios b\u00e1sicos del NHS que incluyen fisioterapia, dermatolog\u00eda, ayudas auditivas, resonancias magn\u00e9ticas y terapia psicol\u00f3gica&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Este significativo cambio estructural ha sido elogiado y criticado por diferentes actores. Por razones obvias, los proveedores tradicionales de salud han visto este cambio como una amenaza para el NHS. La Doctora Clare Gerada, Presidente del Royal College of General Practitioners, ha dicho que el nuevo status AQP atomizar\u00e1 el NHS.
