Project Skill: Conceptual Design, Business Plan, Re-Opening, Management
The challenge:
The 65-key resort is located in the beautiful region of Don Quijoute, surrounded by olive groves. It is also the only hotel in Spain with its own private landing strip. The hotel had been closed for 4 years and the facilities had become outdated. Hotel La Caminera Club de Campo turned to Spa Balance as they wanted to put wellness at the core of their offering, without adding grand spa facilities or breaking budget.
The approach:
We followed the seven principles of the ESSENCE model. We ensured we had the right wellness concept that not only satisfied the owners but also addressed the wellness needs of their ideal guests. We created our special way of doing wellness that differentiated us from the rest (instead of introducing a trending therapy) and found local talent that we successfully trained up to deliver landmark experiences without breaking budget. We opted to maintain the wellness facilities of the hotel instead of making huge physical changes, proposing minor but visible changes to give the spa and the gym a more modern look. Six months after opening, we had stayed true to our concept, despite temptation to add the latest gadget, but opted to fine-tune some details to better it. We made mistakes, but we put the right checks in place to avoid repeating them. And finally, we went the extra mile to curate special moments for our guests that they could easily share, even when the pandemic hit.
The outcome:
Within the first year of launching the wellness concept, the Olive Oil Spa Sommelier, the hotel reached it’s operational breakeven target. It also was awarded the best Luxury Wellness Hotel in Spain in 2019. The hotel enjoys a committed and loyal customer base that actively engages with the brand. The hotel is a landmark in the region and has changed the way wellness is done in the region.
